On them twitters, people often create their own hash tags on the fly, running words together to create #devastatingnewtags.

Last night, I happened to see something go past with the a tag which I read as "cannot bear sed". Well, having had a bit of a run-in with sed recently, I can get behind that.

It was only some time later that I realised that they were probably reporting "cannot be arsed".

[livejournal.com profile] hjalfi thinks this incident means it's too late for me to resume a normal life :(

hjalfi thinks this incident means it's too late for me to resume a normal life :(

And hjalfi thinks that point has only just been reached? ;-)

Seems a perfectly reasonable thing for a geek type to say to me. But then again, I do live in Cambridge, and am employed in a professional geek job, so I burned that bridge from both ends when I came to it a long time ago.

In unrelated news, I now have a Right sed Fred earworm. Thank you.

Both [livejournal.com profile] hjalfi and I work in professional geek jobs, and I might even go so far as to say he's geekier than I am. I think he was just being mean ;)

Mean? Surely that was a compliment?!

I'm standing right here, you know!

Also, I apparently still have not figured out this friggin' LJ autologin.

I didn't recognise you! ;-)

Damn. I think I've spent too much time on Stalkbook - I just attempted to 'like' your comment, on account of your "Right sed Fred" remark.

And I am wondering what Right awk Fred and Right grep Fred would sound like.

Hurrah! Normal lives are overrated.

Or so I'm told. I don't speak from personal experience, you understand.

Seems a perfectly cromulent interpretation to me. And yes, I'm afraid the 'normal life' ship has long since sailed.

(btw, I do wish autocorrect would stop 'correcting' cromulent as corpulent..)

them twitters...

... Which reminds me, I was hearing some more stories about a friend's dad recently. His vocation was being a sort of ham-radio guru. Many of the people who turned up to his (sadly recent) funeral were people he'd spoken with many times over t' wireless, but had rarely met in person.

(Also he used to pick up cross-chatter from Vietnam back in the day. Short-wave radio signals travel quite far.)

I guess the current situation of frequently corresponding on teh megainterwebs but hardly ever going out for a beer is similar in many respects. Except that modern is littler, which is nice.

Cannot bears ed? No they cannot.

Right Said Fred -- and Bernard Cribbins?
So who defines normal anyway?

[identity profile] beckyl.livejournal.com 2012-01-26 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm confused. Doesn't most of your journal provide evidence that you've been living something far more interesting than a 'normal life' for pretty much all of your time on the planet? Why would you want that to change?
