This morning

Today, I got disconcerted by a door.

Coming downstairs this morning, I observed that the door between the kitchen and our front room was closed. This door is only ever closed when someone's trying to watch a film and other people are being noisy in the kitchen.

It was open when I went to bed.
I was (I hope!) the only person in the house last night.
It catches on the carpet, so doesn't "swing", it has to be pushed shut.
There was no obvious combination of open windows which might have caused a downdraft.

Oh well.

Is anyone else reminded of a Newman/Baddiel sketch ?

If it were here - we would blame Ryan. Feel free to do so, he won't care.

That leaves as possible closing sources:

Forgetfullnes (you really did close it)
Sleepwalking
Ghosts
Subsidence
Burglars (who were not in the mood for stealing things?)

Forgetfullnes (you really did close it)

- I'm moderately sure on this one. It would have been very unusual, and I'm sure I remember looking back through to the kitchen as I switched the light off on the way up to bed.

Sleepwalking

- I can't rule it out.

Ghosts

- I'm assuming not. We've got not previous evidence of hauntage.

Subsidence

- I'll check with a spirit level when I get home. Should also help with the above.

Burglars (who were not in the mood for stealing things?)

- I did wonder. When we were burgled before it was by people walking in in the night, and taking selected items which weren't immediately obvious. Both doors were locked this time, though.

I think it's just One Of Those Things. I'm going with [livejournal.com profile] lathany's suggestion and blaming Ryan. Bloody parents who don't keep their kids in order, and let them roam around miles from home closing other people's doors :)

Are you a mutant?

Hmmm.. Prophetic dreams, and now things moving in your sleep. Maybe it's your latent mind powers revealing themselves?

COUNT YOUR PANTS!

You may have a case of gnomes...

No, still appear to be wearing one pair. Phew.

I worry at times that the curtains in our house have a similar self closing ability given how much time I seem to spend opening them.

But then I remember who I live with.

There's definitely a wheelbarrow fairy 'cos however many times I lean it up against the shed wall, I always come back another time to find it in the middle of the path and half full of rainwater.

It's not as bizarre as their strange self-opening abilities. :)

Ha ha ha! I am the poltergeist! I have all the powers of evil at my command!!

I know what I'll do. I'll close this door. And then when she comes down in the morning she'll be all freaked out and she'll say "But I'm sure that door was open" and then she'll think and say "yes, it was definitely open, I wouldn't have closed it".

Ha ha ha ha ha!!!

And in answer to your question no, it didn't remind me of a newman and baddiel sketch. :)

I snuck back to England in the night and closed it.

There. Mystery solved.
