As some of you may recall, for some time I was a champion of the 50p cassette tape, bought from a charity shop and played in a car stereo. Sadly, this is now coming back to bite me.

I no longer own a suitable car stereo, and I have masses of tapes. Some of which I wish to keep, and will be playing on my old-skool tape deck in the house, but many of which I have duplicated on CD.

I am exploring disposal options for tapes. It seems they can be recycled, but you have to pay someone to do it rather than taking them to your local tip. As far as I'm aware, charity shops don't want them any more. If anyone has any great ideas, I'd like to hear them.

However... do any of you drive elderly cars with tape decks? Or listen to tapes in other circumstances? If so, would you like a surprise parcel of random listening sent your way? I can't (and indeed won't) guarantee quality, but I do guarantee variety...

And then there's the home-recorded tapes. The above were all genuine pre-recorded albums, by the way. In the highly unlikely circumstances anyone wants to record over them for their own purposes, shout up...

I'm still an old car driver. I'm sure you know what I count as "Quality" in the music line, so no worries there :)

I also listen to tapes sometimes.

If you do find a suitable disposal option, I trust you'll post the information as a public service... I also have a stack of cassettes, and no longer even have a cassette tape deck, let alone a car player.

I still have an elderly car with a tape deck, and do not own an iAnything or even a portable CD player with which to improve my audio options. At present my in-car music choices consist of a techno compilation tape, goth/alternative/industrial compilation tape, Hawkwind tape, Doors tape, PiL tape, and Mark Stewart and the Maffia tape, all 15-25 years old, the only survivors of the Great Tape Purge of '90 (shortly before we bought the car). So yes please. Random me up. You can send 'em to Serpent King Games:

Finally bought one of those discounted-but-still-reasonably-nasty USB ION personal cassette player things, mostly to listen to the recordings of The Cantebury Tales which the works library threw out on the basis of them possessing literary merit. Have still got a reasonable Pioneer deck in the hovel. Tapes for homebrew? There's a shop up the Archway Road that does tapes. I bought some Dieter Muh. Might go back and see if there's any Boris.

Any published copies (i.e: not home-made recordings) of anything by SoM, Bauhaus, Gary Numan, John Foxx, CoX, Fad Gadget, etc... fell free to post them my way ;-)

Ooh, I own a car which, while not that elderly, has a tape deck. And I always enjoy your music posts. So yeah, happy to refund postage for a handful. ;-)

Heh, we have a tape deck in the car (and a very well used and often used ghetto blaster that Just Doesn't Die)....

.... But as well as my sizeable tape collection I already have a whole extra stack of tapes from my local Freecycle, which are Slowly getting worked through, and are brill. I was freecycled about 30 kiddies song and audiobook tapes two years ago (including a FAB steeleye Span a-moonlighting nursery rhyme tape), plus last year I succumbed to someone who cleared out their entire 80s collection on tape.

So, the purpose of this rambling post is to suggest you Freecycle em- someone may be very pleased to have 'em!
