I tape them all off Top of the Pops
As some of you may recall, for some time I was a champion of the 50p cassette tape, bought from a charity shop and played in a car stereo. Sadly, this is now coming back to bite me.
I no longer own a suitable car stereo, and I have masses of tapes. Some of which I wish to keep, and will be playing on my old-skool tape deck in the house, but many of which I have duplicated on CD.
I am exploring disposal options for tapes. It seems they can be recycled, but you have to pay someone to do it rather than taking them to your local tip. As far as I'm aware, charity shops don't want them any more. If anyone has any great ideas, I'd like to hear them.
However... do any of you drive elderly cars with tape decks? Or listen to tapes in other circumstances? If so, would you like a surprise parcel of random listening sent your way? I can't (and indeed won't) guarantee quality, but I do guarantee variety...
And then there's the home-recorded tapes. The above were all genuine pre-recorded albums, by the way. In the highly unlikely circumstances anyone wants to record over them for their own purposes, shout up...

I am afraid I have given the Tina Turner one a mercy killing (the inlay, at least, is recycled), but the others will all be moving in to the car for play.

Or, to put it another way, fair enough! Hope you like the others, anyway. (She wasn't one of the favourites I mentioned :)

Mind you, it could have been worse. I decided not to send the tape of Pope John Paul II celebrating Christmas mass (in Latin!) to anyone. Why do I own this? I have no idea.

I regularly am a keen trawler of charity shops (and carboot sales) and have gain many treasures for such prices - I was hoping you may have had similar purchases which you may now wish to pass on :-)

.... But as well as my sizeable tape collection I already have a whole extra stack of tapes from my local Freecycle, which are Slowly getting worked through, and are brill. I was freecycled about 30 kiddies song and audiobook tapes two years ago (including a FAB steeleye Span a-moonlighting nursery rhyme tape), plus last year I succumbed to someone who cleared out their entire 80s collection on tape.
So, the purpose of this rambling post is to suggest you Freecycle em- someone may be very pleased to have 'em!
