My loneliness is killing me
It's Friday, it's about 3 o'clock. It's time to go underneath the covers (with the lights out).
I always recommend listening to a cover version without knowing what or who it is, so click on the link before reading ahead...
Today's cover version [link to mp3 expired]
Mark Ronson (featuring Tiggers) covering the Toxic, originally scored by Britney Spears
My love of Toxic is an embarassment I've already faced up to, by the way, so no mocking :)
Anyway, yes. Mark Ronson. His covers album, Version was the big news of 2007. Some of the tracks - like the cover of the Zutons' Valerie, featuring Amy Winehouse, went on to eclipe their originals. Many of the tracks didn't see much radioplay - I can't actually remember whether or not this one did.
It's a really interesting selection of covers, by the way. The Smiths, Radiohead, the Jam, the Kaiser Chiefs... quite a mixed bag. And the slightly inspired cover of Maximö Park's song Apply Some Pressure, featuring the singer from Maximö Park. The standard's pretty high, and I definitely recommend purchasing yourself a copy.

Based on the title I was half expecting this.

Not that it's bad you understand, but downtempo covers/remixes of fast tunes drive me absolutely fingernails-down-a-blackboard nuts.

(Also, Sweet Dreams is a much loved track for me, so the bar is set high!)

(Entertainingly, type 'Marilyn Manson' into Youtube search and 'Sweet Dreams' is the first suggested video.)
