*giggle* Thanks for posting it!

I find it ironic that the British, long proud of being a nation that gets irony and sarcasm while those silly colonials are baffled by it, fail to grasp a simple counter-factual phrase.

If any of the (admittedly very small number) of Americans I've ever challenged on it had said that, I'd have let it go. They never have, though.

I'd give more weight to that argument if said phrase was ever actually said with an ironic inflection. But it isn't...

Is there such a thing as an ironic inflection!?

Sarcastic tone of voice I'll grant you, I'm not sure about the other though!

The excuse I've always heard is that what's meant is 'I could care less, but it would take effort'. Except that that would involve an emphasis on the could that just isn't there.

I'd accept that as an argument, I've just never heard it!

To be honest, it's not something which bothers me particularly, I just like the way David Mitchell expresses his opinions.

Anyone who whizzes out of the scene and appears on a graph is OK by me.

Yeah, I'm still trying to master that. The most I've managed so far is getting a pie-chart in the face.
