Nowadays everybody wanna talk like they got something to say

It's Friday, it's about 3 o'clock. It's time to go underneath the covers (with the lights out).

I always recommend listening to a cover version without knowing what or who it is, so click on the link before reading ahead...

Today's cover version [mp3 download]

That was Ben Folds covering Bitches Ain't Shit, originally by Dr Dre.

By the way, I'm in Whitby for the folk festival this week. Am barely reading email (and definitely not reading LJ) so my apologies if I've been ignoring you.

Anyway, that was one of my most favouritest covers ever. It is one where - from a personal point of view - I can see pretty much no merit in the original. Ben Folds' version, on the other hand, had me in stitches the first time I heard it - live, in the Barbican, with most of the audience forming an impromptu chorus to an extent which seemed to surprise even Mr Folds.

I like covers which are out of genre, and the contrast of the rather lovely melody and the utterly foul lyrics still amuses. I shall stop before I start using words like "juxtaposition".

As an irrelevant side line, there's also a fabulous cover of a Ben Folds track done by Dan & Dan (and Dan & Dan) here. If you're not familiar with Dan & Dan, then check them out; they're really very funny.

Have fun at Whitby. If you run into my parents say hi!

I haven't wittingly bumped into them - I'm not sure what they look like! (although I did see Valdis at a concert yesterday... )

They're both quite short (like me), they both wear glasses, Mam has shortish slightly wavy grey hair and Dad has short curly grey hair with a receding hairline and a full grey beard. They may be with my brother who looks exactly like my Dad except a bit chubbier and with less grey in the beard.

Sadly the Internet is not helpful for finding photos.

I don't think the problem is DNS, since http://74.52.66.122/utc2.mp3 is not connecting either.

That's the problem :) My server's moved and that's no longer the correct IP address...

[identity profile] bateleur.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Aha!

So was this move this morning, or is someone sucking at DNS propagation?

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
The server moved on Wednesday night, but because I'm on holiday in folkworld I forgot to do anything about updating my records :) I only updated them this afternoon and the world (legitimately) hasn't really noticed yet.

Hence being curious to know if/when it started working!

Seems to be OK now.

Sounds like Coldplay, actually.

Thanks for the warning, I might not bother downloading it now ;-)
