Would you marry me anyway, would you have my baby?

Some time ago, I was writing about the graffiti on the M40, written on a high fence just before the M25 junction.

For some time that junction has been confusing me too much - suddenly two of the lanes veered off to the orbital motorway instead of one and, driving that stretch much more rarely now, it kept taking me by surprise. However, I have now got used to that and can report that the graffiti has been updated. In neat, white letters it now says "Marry me, Pam?"

I wonder if she did.

I wonder if she did.

Probably not, I suspect.

Because surely were the lady (?) in question to accept she would have the decency to respond via a graffito of her own at the same location.

The sweetest (and least graffiti-ish) one of those I heard of was when my old art teacher proposed - he mocked up a blue plaque in the manner of the local historical interest ones, with 'On this spot, [name] proposed to [name]', fastened it to the outer wall of the castle (it was built to repel scots, bluetack was saf enough), and sneakily drew her attentionto it during their walk.

I can confirm that in that instance at least, the answer was affirmative & they lived happily ever after :)
