And the light begins to fade, and everything is quiet now
It's Friday, it's about 3 o'clock. It's time to go underneath the covers (with the lights out).
I always recommend listening to a cover version without knowing what or who it is, so click on the link before reading ahead...
Today's cover version [link to mp3 expired]
That was Dinosaur Jr covering Just Like Heaven, originally by The Cure.
Yes, before you ask, it is meant to end like that. I don't know why.
Cure songs, you say? Better with more distortion. I realise some Cure fans will regard that as heresy, but in my defence I'm a big fan of the original, too. Back in the days when record companies mailed out paper lists of stock, I paid over a large quantity of my pocket money to buy the 7" picture disc of Just Like Heaven.
This is on the Dinosaur Jr best-of, the rather beautifully-named Ear-Bleeding Country. Presumably it may also be on some other album as well; to be honest, I was a bit surprised when rummaging through ChrisC's Dinosaur Jr shelf this morning to find out how many albums there are.
As far as I'm concerned there's really only one Dinosaur Jr album, the fabulous Where You Been. The others may be very good, I don't know; I should investigate.
