It's Friday, it's about 3 o'clock. It's time to go underneath the covers (with the lights out).

I always recommend listening to a cover version without knowing what or who it is, so click on the link before reading ahead...

Today's cover version [link expired]

That was Nouvelle Vague covering Love Will Tear Us Apart, originally by Joy Division.

Well, I claimed in my Glastonbury write-up that Nouvelle's Vague's covers weren't a bad thing. Time to decide :)

With two albums to go at, choosing a song was tricky. Their stand-out track from this year's Glastonbury set was God Save the Queen, which was a special effort "for you, England" and I don't have a recorded copy. Oh, wait, youtube does, though.

I had feared that Nouvelle Vague were a one-disc joke that would never extend past a year or so. I'm surprised and slightly delighted to find that they're still going strong and still put on a fabulous live show.

Either album is worth a punt, in my opinion.

Too ironic for my taste, I'm afraid. I am intrigued to hear some of their other interpretations, though.

Not been very keen on Nouvelle Vague, or Richard Cheese. In some ways that's surprising because I do really like Max Raabe and the Palatsorchester.

Incidentally, I take it you're aware that James Blunt covered Where Is My Mind?

I'm taking no responsibility for your mental equilibrium should you seek it out.

Thank you for that, I have a penchant for weird covers and I may add this to my little collection. I trust you are aware of the more appropriate Oyster Band/June Tabor version (on the Big Session Vol 1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Big-Session-Vol-1-Oysterband/dp/B0002UJJK0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1278097432&sr=8-1)).

I quite like the effect - I am also intrigued with their links to groups such as the (Brighton) Love Gods
