Engine running hotter than a boiling kettle

It's Friday, it's about 3 o'clock. It's time to go underneath the covers (with the lights out).

I always recommend listening to a cover version without knowing what or who it is, so click on the link before reading ahead...

That was The Hotrats covering (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party), originally by the Beastie Boys.

Well, I did say that I liked covers which took the song in a whole other direction :)

The answer to "The Hotrats? Who?" is that it's Gaz-and-Danny-from-Supergrass. They recently released Turn-Ons, which is just an album of covers of songs they like. (For people who do such things, it's also available for download on eMusic).

It's got rather an interesting and varied selection of songs on it - this, Queen Bitch, Damaged Goods, Up The Junction, E.M.I... I think that this is the stand-out track, but others are well worth a listen if you're coverarily inclined.

Good stuff! Did they nick the intro from Joy Division?

I hadn't noticed that, but I do see what you're saying...

I was thinking it sounded quite Supergrass! Definitely a fun take on the original.

There are posters on Cowley Road with a gravestone and the words "Gone but not forgotten, 1993-2010". (They also say "Bill Stickers is innocent".)

It's Gaz-and-Danny-from-Supergrass

And (at least when I saw them) Nigel Godrich, who twiddles knobs for some lads from Abingdon. That is, the program said it was him, I'm not claiming to know what he looks like.
