See previous post, wicked parents, attic, bah.

Does anyone know of any form of outlet for pre-owned, much-loved, non-CE-marked teddy bears and other furry creatures ? I can't possibly keep all mine, and the prospect of sending them to landfill is not to be borne. Quite apart from it being Plain Wrong, the wasting of perfectly lovable animals offends me.

The mother tells me that even charities which ship bears to children who have no bears are insistent on modern safety standards. (Not, of course, that think it's acceptable to kill children in poverty-stricken regions with toxic bears, but I regard the bears in question as perfectly safe, having failed to be killed by them myself. Many of them lack labels at all on account of being homemade.)

Do you have friends/family with appropriately aged sprogs?

I don't suppose your parents would be impressed with a bear swap? As in you and I both getting rid of our bears, and then filling our parents' attics with an entirely new set of bears that came from some strange internet-person.

Do they have to be gone immediately? Because if not I'm sure they'd do well at the Christmas Fair of some local primary school. Organisers of these things are always after stuff donated for free which they can then sell.

Failing that, maybe a car boot sale?

You might be able to list them on eBay. Failing that, I can't imagine there would be problems with Freecycle, if you can be bothered.

The PEEP place at Cowley Centre might be able to give you some potential homes for bears and other furry aminals (sic). If they can't take them in the shop (which is a drop-in play centre and not really a shop) they might be able to distribute them to suitable families - private gifts aren't governed by the safety-mark issue the same way sales are.

We'll
take two if you like! Not huge in size if possible- we have many general soft toys already -but if you have a particular interesting/ fave pair you'd like to know are being cuddled, my two would be v appreciative.
We have no need of those arcane ce symbols, indeed homemade is positively encouraged....

"I can't possibly keep all mine"

Any particular reason why not? Obviously it sounds like you've got a fair collection but there's generally plenty of places around a place where small furry animals can hide. We even have one in the pantry.....

Back in the day when I was married my wife had her collection of children's teddies colonising the bed. They all got moved off every evening and back on in the morning....
