Have you heard the news today, oh boy!

Having done a brief putter across today's friends entries, I found myself confused. Why is everyone cross with the Pope ? I asked the mother, who filled me in.

Oh right, that explains it.

Does anyone else frequently get their news backwards, having to deduce the day's events from the LJ posts ?

It's not like I didn't hear any news today, just every time I happened across a radio they were talking about Whittards going into administration (which, for clarification, is less serious than global warning but more troubling than people being gay).

Whittards going into administration

They've found a buyer. (They probably shouldn't be considered “out of the woods” yet, but then nor should any other retailer.)

I remember all the fuss when he was named Pope because people who knew of him thought he would do this kind of thing. Those people were right.

I find it quite cheering if I can get pretty mugs and posh tea for 30% of the original price. I never really went in there anyway.

That's how I usually get my news. It sort of dulls the blow of really sad or annoying things if you get to play a guessing game as to what they are and then find out whether you were right or not.

I give up. Why is everyone cross with the Pope?

Also http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7796663.stm which I found and amused me because it has 666 in the url... ;-)

I was ok because the majority of people (unlike you, I note) linked to news articles to avoid confusing their readership (as you seem to have done with poor [livejournal.com profile] condign).

For his benefit the catholic religions official stance still seems to be that gays are bad. And the pope is being generally intolerant. I forget the details but I'm sure looking for pope stories in the news today will fill you in more.

If I'd had a news article I'd have linked to it - you forget how tedious googling is in dial-up land. And if Condign gave up, I assume it was hard to locate ;)

Where "frequently" = "almost always". Sometimes I think I won't ever have to read the news again, just LJ.
