A (Geordie) friend of my fathers, temporarily living in Massachusets in the 80's popped into a record store to get something to listen to in the car. Good American rock he thought, and picked an album that looked like serious rock music.
Driving home the words "from Color Coats to Whitley Bay" burst out of his car stereo. And just to assure him he wasn't making it up came the repeated references to Spanish City. I think he nearly crashed.
Alas had it been me I'd have had to write about the Hoppings Fair instead, since for my youth Color Coats was just the place at the end of the yellow Metro line.
