We know where the music's playin', let's go out and feel the night

After yesterday's yak shaving, I spent the rest of the day hanging out with a couple of hundred people at the Isis Tavern Farmhouse, at Harvest Festival.

I saw lots of bands[*], listened to the local Green parliamentary candidate talking about the issues of feeding a growing population, and drank some nice beer. It was just like being at a festival, except when the last band came off I walked home to my nice, cosy bed. The sensible people at Truck (who are running the bash) chose this weekend because it's a Harvest Moon, meaning that at midnight it's still light enough to walk up the towpath without risking a dunking.

Anyone in Oxford who's at a loose end today is advised to pop along for the second day - there are still tickets available on the door. Music starts at 1pm. And there's cake!

[*] Moira Smiley, Gabe Minnikin, Stornoway, Hankdogs, Dusty Soundsystem, Piney Gir and the Age of Reason, Coute Diomboulu and Hot Club of Cowtown. No, I hadn't heard of any of them either, but several of them turned out to be very good indeed.

John Peel used to play Hot Club Of Cowtown regularly, and so did Andy kershaw. I remember liking them but not getting round to buying anything.

the local Green parliamentary candidate

Or "Peter Tatchell", as some readers may already know him.

Er, no. Chris Goodall. At least, he claimed to be the local Green parliamentary candidate, and his name sounded sufficiently familiar that that seemed plausible.

Hmm. On second thoughts he said "Oxford West and Abingdon", and claimed the Isis was in that electoral wossname, but I don't know if I believe him.

Ah. It is on that side of the river I guess.

According to the Find-your-MP site, it's still in Oxford East. There does seem to be some confusion though, because we very occasionally get Oxford West and Abingdon party bumf through our door. Which has confused me sufficiently that I didn't register Chris Goodall as the wrong bloke.
