Two birds with one stone...

(a) does anyone know any good/cheap B&Bs/hotels to recommend in Oxford. Frances wants to know...

(b) I'm testing work software by posting this. Yay, watch me play with LJ in the interests of work...

I have stayed in the Youth Hostel and remember it as being OK. It's not terribly central though (and like all Youth Hostels, is up a hill).

Alternatively, my parents have stayed in the "Travel Lodge" hotel at the far, far end of Cowley Road and seemed to like it. Don't know the prices off-hand though.

There's now a large shiny new youth hostel, right next to the station, and not up a hill at all.

The Travel Lodge isn't bad, is relatively cheap, but don't expect much from the 'pub' attached.

On Iffley Road a lot of the B&Bs are pretty cheap, but some of them are obscenely grotty. If you're looking for crash space for parents, the Travel Lodge is the best bet.

Though, come to think of it, the Acorn on Iffley Road was very nice and very moderate, but that was... man, 8 years ago my Mom stayed there...

One of my many cousins got married in Oxford last year and my dad booked about 4 rooms in a little hotel called "Pickwicks" on the main road up headington hill. It's about 50 quid a night, very pleasant and they do a good breakfast in the morning (whatever you like on a plate). they're in the oxford yellow pages. I'd go there again quite happily, comfy beds and right on the main bus route into town. And no, they're not paying me!!

She does. And hence she doesn't stay in the B&Bs there much :)
