My mother - cook extraordinaire - is currently staying with me, and I was wondering whether I could produce a Sunday roast up to her exacting standards. In the nick of time she saved me, by reminding me that she is (on account of my dad's heart-attack tendencies) living these days on a ludicrously healthy, low-fat regime while at home.

We had a full English breakfast for Sunday dinner: sausages, bacon, mushrooms in garlic butter, grilled tomatoes, fried eggs and fried muffins.

Mmm... lard :)
