Does anyone know who Douglas Rushkoff is ? Is his blog trustable ?

Notably, is this a scam or a genuine appeal ?

It's been resposted all over the place, which makes it tricky to google. It seems genuine to me, and is mentioned on www.rawilson.com (which is an annoying site which plays non-negotiable audio at you); sadly that's such a nastily designed site that it automatically makes me thing it's a scam. Strange how nothing says "spoof" like lime green backgrounds and animated pictures.

Of course, I've read Cosmic Trigger so I know that Robert Anton Wilson has actually been dead for years, but would still like to contribute.

Digging around on his site I found this update from yesterday:

Bob has post-polio syndrome which has severely damaged his legs and weakened his body. He had a hard fall in June of this year which landed him in the hospital. He has since not been able to walk and is thus confined to his bed (overlooking beautiful Monterey Bay fnord), requiring 24 hour care. Due to Bob's acute weakness in June and July, many of his family and friends felt that Bob could go at any time. He has since rallied slowly with up's and down's, and like most things, his condition seems in the maybe state. Bob has no pain, has a hearty appetite, is in steady good, sharp humor, is surrounded by family and friends, and feels he shows signs of slow recovery. Praise Bob! All hail Eris! ...
Donations have poured in since friends of Bob Wilson got the word out that he could use some help with steep healthcare costs (Donation link above). Thank you so much for your generosity! Bob requires 24 hour care and this kindly swarm of donations has enabled Bob to receive the care he (and everyone!) deserves. Bob is not one for the begging bowl. He would rather that fans wishing to help out simply buy his wares. But his friends, understanding the potential financial strain of Bob's needs, set up the Friends of Robert Anton Wilson relief fund, and your response has been astounding. Bob "is" presently cheerful, without pain and ceaselessly optimistic.

Couldn't say, but officialgaiman has highlighted this... My assumption is that if NG knows that if approx. 1 million fans are reading his words then maybe he is a bit careful about what he posts... But then this is merely an assumption...

I've seen these gradually getting more urgent for months- he sold a load of personal stuff on EBAY himself a few months back and have every reason to believe it. The eristic comms have been bringing it up for over a year that his health is declining and that he needs support. Yes, I'm very sure it is real, but boingboing have brought it to a wider audience recently.
