Beards and patterned jumpers optional

This weekend was the Spring Thing folk festival in Darlington, which my parents help run. As usual, I pottered up to join in... only this time, I took my dance team with me.

The weekend featured:
A ceilidh on Friday night, alternating with fielding members of my team as they arrived, and staggering to the CAMRA bar.
An early start on Saturday morning.
Starting a pub crawl (dancing in each pub) as soon as the pubs opened. Remembering that organising a rapper team is a little like herding cats.
Pausing for lunch and a couple of dance displays.
Acting as fetival steward at the afternoon dance showcase - so, basically a protracted session of me trying to prevent the public from standing in fire exits.
More pubcrawling.
On enormous Chinese meal, which I had to leave early as I was stewarding at the Saturday night ceilidh.
The horrific discovery that the CAMRA bar had run out of beer.
An early start on Sunday morning, after some bugger stole one of my hours overnight.
A dance practice, trying to learn some new stuff.
A bit more stewarding.
Running a singaround[*] til closing time.
A horrifically early start, to catch the 5:56 train this morning.
The discovery that the underground was stuffed, so despite the early start I still didn't get in to work til 11...

All fun, but I'm just about ready to curl up under the desk and snooze...

This week's Designated Hero is actually a committee of four people, to whom the honour is awarded after sterling service at the singaround[*] last night:

Dougald, for singing The Ship Song.
George, for singing Mary Ellen Carter (which, unlike The Ship Song is about a ship).
Clare, for finding the words to Rolling Home, and thus avoiding me looking like a fool as I did last year.
Josh, for teaching me some of the verses to the song which begins "One red one, one white one, and one with a bit of shite on..." and fits the tune of The Ash Grove. I've been wondering about that for years (and yes, I know, I could google, I've just never thought to. In the interests of work-safety, I'll leave it til I get home...

[*]singaround - n. A roomful of people who take it in turns to sing songs.

I am currently having difficulty telling the thorn holes from the nettle stings. All fun though. I have a few more trees.
I didn't run around like a mad hairbrained lunatic but I did do productive things so I think I get to feel tired any way ;-p

Dinner before I Tunis?

Ah. Yes. I knew that really.
Sadly, then, I probably won't be about. I'm Tuesdaying tomorrow, will be working late on Wednesday, and am then pinging off to Glasgow...

Well if you would do silly things like go to Glasgow.
I'll bring you back a strange present.

I could cook tonight but I expect you are busy/sleeping ;-)

I once asked my distant cousin (who is a gardener) what the 'official definition' of a weed was. His answer: a plant out of place.

That is pretty much what a weed is, some people are more forgiving about out of place though.
If I find out of place trees these days I move them somewhere, possibly into the tree collection for a while. I even moved some out of place grass on sunday to a right place rather than waste it. I did remove a lot of other out of place grass though.
