You will see when I am gone, can't you see that I am trying?

Well, this evening I was intending to put the entries for the photo competition online.

And indeed I have done, but not before a good deal of wailing and gnashing of teeth had been indulged in. Part of that was due to me burning my nice stuffed aubergines[*], but most of it was caused by the discovery that some of my own entries for the competition are... still in the camera. Not just undownloaded, but trapped - trapped, I tell you - on a tiny little roll of celluloid. Bother.

However.

People's photographs are now listed, and available for your expert perusal. Expert, of course, because you - yes you - are the judge.

I had been planning to group the photos onto a page for each category, but too many categories have too few entries[**]. So instead, you are invited to browse around people's collections and nominate:

- your top three photographs (judged on them just being jolly nice pictures)
- your top three interpretations (judged on the picture fitting the lyric it represents)

Nominations should be emailed to me (venta at livejournal dot com) as and when you feel like it. I'll warn before I call time on the judging.

Anyone else is welcome to vote on the pictures, regardless of whether they've been playing up til now or not. The more the merrier.

[*] As may have been evident to [livejournal.com profile] liriselei when he came to the door. He certainly looked pretty scared when I offered him one.
[**] I accept partial responsibility for this - many people have grumbled to me that the categories were too hard/too longwinded/too rubbish.[***]
[***] Why yes, since you ask, I do have another idea for a new competition, should anyone care, and it's much simpler.

I'm blind, or stupid.

Those two links go to the same page, but the second has a #entries anchor. There's no such anchor on that page.

Nope, t'ain't me. 'tis you :)

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2006-05-04 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, I dunno what to say beyond "my version has an anchor", "the link 'listed' above works for me" and "are you sure you haven't got a cached copy of the page?"

I expect you've pretty much thought of the cache problem, so I have no idea what's going on. If you look at the source, what's going on around the header which says "Entries" ?

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2006-05-04 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
When I say "my version", I do mean on the server rather than locally on my laptop, before you ask :)

[identity profile] wimble.livejournal.com 2006-05-04 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Looks to have been a cache problem. Odd. Dunno where I was getting that from.

Ok, 'twas me after all.

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2006-05-04 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Jolly good.

Will sir be opting for "blind" or "stupid" this evening ?

;p

Totaly OT, but I thought of you today, on seeing a headline which, if you ask me, is not news.
"Forest Gate shooting victim "critical"", it read. Well, naturally. If it had read "Forest Gate shooting victim "enthusiastic"", that would be news, but as it stands? Well, I'd have a thing or two to say if some bastard shot me too!

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2006-05-04 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, indeed. I'm rapidly losing faith in headlines. At least yours made sense. Have you noticed the increasing tendency of screamers to degenerate into lists of one-syllable nouns ?

Last week I saw a billboard in London which read "Prestcott affair - more details". If there was one thing I didn't want in my paper last week it was more details of John Prestcott's sex life.

[identity profile] sushidog.livejournal.com 2006-05-04 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
*heh* yes, I had exactly the same thought on seeing exactly that headline.

lists of one-syllable nouns

I still remember that one the Sun had a while back:

KATE DRUGS COPS
QUIZ CLASH STAR

(if only they'd said 'MOSS' instead of 'KATE'...)

You're trying..I can see it..

nothing to do with the aubergines, scared is just my default state at the moment - life is scary when one's not living it.

Well without a big printout of the rules, I couldn't remember what the photos were meant to be of (so took a corresponding number of pics). Something thc also commented on, and said he'd have to do some rummaging to find the songs to get the vibe of first.

Your transport themed one was beautifully simple and easy to memorise the rules. I seem to remember the one prior to that was themed on colours, so again nice and simple and easier to remember.

I hadn't really thought about entering any of these as I only have an SLR camera. But I might try and enter the next one and get my negatives made all computer-worthy in time.

I like the lyrics idea though.

I like the lyrics idea though.

Yeah, me too. Sadly, no one else did :)

Are those who submitted pictures (submissives?) expected to vote? And if so, what is the policy on voting for your own pictures (and/)or at least those you think will fare badly in order to boost your own chances?

What? Come on, it's a competition! ;-)

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2006-05-11 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, you submissives are allowed to vote. And you're allowed to vote for your own pictures.

Rules are as follows: you should vote on merit, and tactical voting is discouraged. However, I have no way of telling whether you genuinely voted for photos you thought were top or not. So you can vote, but be good.
