It's Friday! It's about three o'clock! It's time to Boogie At Your Desk!

Friday afternoons need a little something. I think they need a Top Tune. Something to make you shuffle in your seat and, if possible, Boogie At Your Desk. I'll be endeavouring to fill this gap some Fridays this year.

I'm not claiming that any track provided to enable At-Desk Boogying is one of the world's best or most profound pieces of music. It will, however, be a tune which makes me smile, and which has at some stage made me surreptitiously Boogie At My Desk.

Desks are not compulsory, of course. Feel free to boogie through your office, in your bedroom, round your lab, across your classroom, on the train - wherever you find yourself on a Friday afternoon.

If you like the track, go out and buy the album it belongs to - I'll try and recommend a suitable CD to purchase for any BAYD track.

This link will expire at some point in the future.

Today you are invited to Boogie At Your Desk to:

Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine - Let's Get Tattoos

Some time ago, ChrisC had the Carter USM singles collection on in his car. I was curious about it, vaguely surprised that I didn't recognise more of the songs, and ultimately didn't enjoy it very much.

A few weeks ago, I saw it in a bargain box in a record shop in Reading and, for reasons I'm still not entirely sure of, grabbed it. After a few listens I was amazed to find myself enjoying it immensely and, on occasion, Boogying Outrageously At My Desk. Following on from my recent PWEI wallowing, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm only just entering my 90s grebo phase.

Obviously, first and foremost, Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine is a great name for a band. A bunch of also-ran minor details like catchy tunes, great lyrics that veer around between bleak, gritty and plain silly, and dreadful puns should have secured Carter USM a place in the nation's heart. If you liked them at the time, let yourself remember. Go on, I won't tell anyone. If, like me, you missed them, check 'em out.

I think Straw Donkey... The Singles would make a fine addition to any record collection.

If this was the Sound Machine, I have loads of singles from that box, and almost without exception they're fantastic.

I commend you for your fine choice. I was listening to Straw Donkey... just last week, in fact, after reclaiming my copy off of Morph.

Please don't become a grebo though. They don't wash.
