At the Zombie Hop where I can shake my shoes

It's Friday! It's about three o'clock! It's well after five, but hey, I'm in a different timezone anyway. It's time to Boogie At Your Desk!

Friday afternoons need a little something. I think they need a Top Tune. Something to make you shuffle in your seat and, if possible, Boogie At Your Desk. I'll be endeavouring to fill this gap some Fridays this year.

I'm not claiming that any track provided to enable At-Desk Boogying is one of the world's best or most profound pieces of music. It will, however, be a tune which makes me smile, and which has at some stage made me surreptitiously Boogie At My Desk.

Desks are not compulsory, of course. Feel free to boogie through your office, in your bedroom, round your lab, across your classroom, on the train - wherever you find yourself on a Friday afternoon.

If you like the track, go out and buy the album it belongs to - I'll try and recommend a suitable CD to purchase for any BAYD track.

Today you were invited to Boogie At Your Desk to:

Zombina and the Skeletones - Horror Highschool

Last time I saw the ghoulish rock'n'roll outfit Zombina and the Skeletones, I said this about them:

They really do have everything - catchy tunes, daft lyrics, fake blood, people who can sing (and break out into three and four part harmony surprisingly regularly), people who can play their instruments, a female drummer, and a keyboard player who can improvise, silent-movie-style, while the rest of the band faffs.

And really, you can't say fairer than that.

Taste The Blood of Zombina and the Skeletones is a stormingly fun album, and you should own it. Go on, they seem like nice people.

Failing that, there are mp3s available for streaming aplenty here (and I think you can even download them if you sign in). Best recommendation is Nobody Likes You (When You're Dead) which is down near the bottom of the page.

In fact, any of you in London who aren't in Whitby (if you see what I mean) and have no plans for tomorrow night should get yourselves over to the Water Rats and see them live. Anyone else can listen to them on Mark Radcliffe's Radio 2 show on Oct 31st.

Happy hallowe'en.

I think the weekend's Skeletones appearances aren't happening. One of them's been taken quite ill.

Correct, which makes Whitby look like a good call on my part. The R2 show did happen, though, and I must extract my copy from Andrew...

Suprisingly enough, I've actually heard this album. It is both deeply silly and very well done at the same time; great fun.

Although I do have a bit of a suspicion that there's more than a hint of the evil autotuner on some of those MP3 streams...
