My Mum worked for the folks that made DMs, before they shipped out to the far East. I could have got DMs real cheap, but... I just never liked them. Fine on other folk, just not for me.
I've just killed my second pair of German para boots, and it's taken me almost 15 years; both pairs were "reconditioned" (i.e. properly resoled), courtesy of Storms in Reading, and neither cost more than 25 quid. A bit of hunting on t'internet will secure a new pair for £45. I strongly suspect that the new pair will see me out. Not exactly what I'd choose to wear by preference, and my purple suede Berghaus walking boots are far, far superior, but as a solid seven-league, get-me-home-from-the-pub boot, I've yet to find anything better.
