Boogie with a suitcase!

It's Friday! It's about three o'clock! It's time to Boogie At Your Desk!

Friday afternoons need a little something. I think they need a Top Tune. Something to make you shuffle in your seat and, if possible, Boogie At Your Desk. I'll be endeavouring to fill this gap some Fridays this year.

I'm not claiming that any track provided to enable At-Desk Boogying is one of the world's best or most profound pieces of music. It will, however, be one of the tunes which make me smile, and which have at some stage made me surreptitiously Boogie At My Desk.

Desks are not compulsory, of course. Feel free to boogie through your office, in your bedroom, round your lab, across your classroom, on the train - wherever you find yourself on a Friday afternoon.

The link will expire when I leave work this evening. If you like the track, go out and buy the album it belongs to - I'll try and recommend a suitable CD to purchase for any BAYD track.

(Please note, my server is throttled for large files - this will be quite a slow download.)

Today you were invited to Boogie At Your Desk to:

Silver Sun - Lava

Lava is one of those mid-90s moments of pop genius: glorious close harmony, chittery guitars and a swooping melody. It can be found on the album Silver Sun, which contains several moments of amazing pop genius, and sadly also some moments of true pop filler. It's good filler, mind, and well worth it for the good bits.

The later album, Neo Wave, is a much more consistent sound, but never quite makes the highs of the earlier one. It still remains one of my top bounce-round-the-bedroom albums, though.

Lava also scores 0.87 Debasers of Impenetrability. (1 Debaser of Impenetrability is defined to be exactly the amount of opaque nonsense encountered during one listening to Debaser.)

The curious can further investigate some (legit) video clips of other Silver Sun singles at the band's own site.

Silver Sun have been attempting a bit of a come-back, and are threatening us with a new album. I've not heard the single from it yet, but, y'know, keep half an ear out.

Update: Yes, it really is bastard slow. Will try and sort out something better for next week.
Update2: Scroll down the comments to find some handy alternative links put up by nice, friendly people.

[livejournal.com profile] secretrebel was after a name for her proto-band. I think you might have just hit one!

The link's not doing much for me (besides webcounting). Has anyone else got this working ?

I see a Quicktime control bar at 0% loaded and there it stays.

I've got about 1.5M of it so far. It's slow, but it's happening.

Got there. At a final transfer rate of 0.8 kps. Whoo!

Well, after a wait like that, there'd better be some damn fine boogying.

I dunno why you're downloading it, anyhow, I'm sure I mailed you the mp3 years ago :)

[identity profile] wimble.livejournal.com 2005-01-14 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. I got Trickle Down, but that's it.

Quicktime shouldn't be involved at any stage! Unless that's what you use to play mp3s, of course. It really will be quite slow, though, so hitting refresh will just be restarting the download.

(You in particular would be better off going to feldspar/My_Music :)

And as a further top tip, if you create an m3u file which simply references the mp3 then you get streaming for free. For example,
here (http://www.broadmeadow.plus.com/bayd.m3u).

Subject, of course, to the server having enough bandwidth to push the file through in realtime.
