Last Orders!

If anyone else wants to have a go at the lyrics quiz, get on with it.

I'll start totalling up the answers this afternoon, so entries after 12 midday will probably get ignored.

Is it possible to close a poll ?

Thanks for the reminder. I think I did remarkably badly and I'll kick myself once the answers are known, but there we go.

The Poll Documentation says that the HTML for your poll should start with an <lj-poll> tag.
This can have attributes of
whovote="all,friends"

Specifies who is allowed to vote in your poll. Options include any LiveJournal user (all), or just the people listed as friends (for personal journals) or members (for community journals) of the journal in which the poll is posted (friends). The default is all.

whoview="all,friends,none"

Specifies who is allowed to see which user chose which answer for the poll. Options include any LiveJournal user (all), which is the default; just the people listed as friends (for personal journals) or members (for community journals) of the journal in which the poll is posted (friends); or no one except the journal owner of the journal in which the poll was posted (none). Any user who can see the entry that the poll resides in can see the aggregate statistical data (percentages and bar graphs).

So, I guess, if you go back and edit the entry, you'll find it's currently: <lj-poll whovote="all" whoview="none"> and if you change this to <lj-poll whovote="none" whoview="all"> is should close it.

But you can't set whovote to none. So that sucks...

And it's really not clear whether editing the poll tag will mean it's a new poll. So experiment somewhere safe first!

You can't edit polls once they've been posted; they appear in the html just as a poll tag, not as the full HTML.

Poll tag with the whovote and whoview attributes? Or just the poll tag?
(I've never created a poll, so I'm afraid I am in ignorance.)

[identity profile] lanfykins.livejournal.com 2004-11-19 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Just the poll tag, with the poll number. Nothing editable.

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2004-11-19 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, polls are completely uneditable after creation, in all respects.

The only option is to create a new one (which of course loses the answers everyone has entered so far).

[identity profile] wimble.livejournal.com 2004-11-19 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Did you know that, in all respects before you asked?
(I knew that you couldn't edit the content, but didn't know you couldn't edit the access.)

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2004-11-19 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I knew that the poll (as it appeared in the entry) contained nothing editable, so I was pretty certain.

I was asking about closing, because I know I've heard people talking about closing polls and was therefore thinking that in theory it should be possible (though I had no idea how).

On reflection, I was thinking of Yahoo! polls, which you can close.

[identity profile] sushidog.livejournal.com 2004-11-19 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think you can close a poll actually; you can lock the entry so no-one can see it any more, or just delete it, but I don't think you can prevent people from answering it as long as it's visible.

Anyway, excellent quiz, I'll look forward to kicking myself over the ones I didn't get!

As you can tell....I guessed most of these as there was only 5 minutes left....:-\

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2004-11-19 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well... you're welcome to keep doing stuff, just that at some point I will 'freeze' the answers :)

(Hint: I'm actually busy working right now, so it won't be for a bit yet :)

[identity profile] wimble.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Damn. Just spotted another one. Are you all closed up?

[identity profile] venta.livejournal.com 2004-11-22 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
I am mid-answer-compilation, I'm afraid, so definitely closed.
