There's a man in the mirror and he's tellin me to hide, away
Scary days. This morning, I brought the new mobile phone I've had in waiting for some time into play. I faffed around a bit transferring my contacts from my old phone, then on the train had a play around with it to see what had changed.
New phones, like new computers, are weird. Everything's empty - no messages, no files, everything pristine and factory-resetted (resat?). The "Pictures" directory on my phone contained nothing but a few stock images... some rather lovely stylised flowers and animals, a pyschedelic bridge, a couple of variants of my network's logo, and a blurry picture of
dmh.
Which threw me for quite some time. I'd transferred no photos from my old phone. I'd not even worked out how to transfer photos from my old phone. Not to mention that I didn't even know I had a photo of dmh in there. However, it did seem more logical (even to my pre-cup-of-tea self) that it'd got there by my agency rather than supplied by default as part of 3's package of images no self-respecting phone should be without.
I do, however, have a dim memory that once upon a time I showed someone how a photo could be added to the phone's address book so that each time the relevant person rang up, the chosen photo would be displayed. I believe I used dmh as a demonstration model, taking a photo in the Elsinore and attaching it to the contact details I had for him. Although he and I occasionally communicate by SMS, I don't believe he's ever called me, so I had completely forgotten having done this.
I'm guessing that, when I transferred all my contacts, the photo came as part of them and tidied itself into the "Pictures" directory. I'm relieved to discover that he's not part of the standard install.
